My school closed due to budget cuts. I spent 8 yrs. on that pto. Those students would thank me in the halls & I automatically knew what for. They would write the pto 'thank you' letters. Just seeing them having fun on the new playground equip. or having a good time at Family Fun Night was more than enough for me. When the school was closing we spent our pto $$ on our students & teachers. We also purchased eveyone in the school t-shirts which still make me smile, when at the other schools I see them wearing the shirts with pride. They still thank me & tell me how much they miss our pto & school. I guess that's my legacy.... the memories of those students (past & present) who remember our pto & school for all we did.

1) hired an artist to paint a mural in the library. It looks amazing and the kids and staff love it. Also, murals in the cafeteria or Gym.
2) 2 benches were placed in the lobby of the school. They look beautiful and give parents and kids a place to sit when they have to wait for pick-ups or appointments. They look much nicer than the chairs that used to be there. When it was first suggested many members thought it was a waste of money and could be spent on other more important things. Now that they're in everyone loves them and didn't realize what a difference they would make
I'm looking at another 22 years with our k-12 school (oldest middle school and youngest 3yrs) and thinking a poster size photo of myself in the lobby should work! HA!!!
How about a tree or small garden with low work plants?
We have a charter school and to celebrate the 5th annverary the PTO purchased a flag that was flown over the US Capital on the same day that our charter was signed. You order it through you Represative Office or I think you can contact your Senator. This is really neat.
....I still like the picture idea...oh! A piece of nice artwork for the library or a series of books from your family.
I served in our PTO for 4 years. Was the head of our playground committee which helped bring in $30,000.00 for a new playground. I say just move on and see what you can do in the middle school or high school level. Your reputation will follow and many doors will open for you without leaving a legacy. You sound like you already have left one. Great job!! Since we so often don't hear that. The kids in your school will remember all you've done. Thanks!
So, I'm wondering, at the end of my four year reign as President, what can I do to leave my own "imprint" on the school. A flagpole has been done. A message board with school name is already in front of the school. Playground surface is done as is new music equipment. Any ideas on what your organization has done to "leave a legacy"?
