My PTO soap opera (very long)

18 years 7 months ago #73745 by writermom
Here's a nice bit of soap opera to brighten your day:

The straw that broke the camel's back came yesterday when my pres sent me yet another rude email ordering me to find child care for our Jan meeting and chewing me out for not helping with the book fair. I can't take it anymore--she is too difficult to deal with. She gives me less than 24 hours notice about the book fair and then gets mad when I say I can't be there because I have other things planned. I sent her email to my DH so he could see why I was quitting and he went ballistic about the way she spoke to me. I wasn't upset--I'm used to her rudeness--but I'm tired of dealing with her.

So my DH who is one of only two parents who regularly attend meetings sent an email to the board and the other parent who comes to meetings saying he was quitting PTO and why until it is under new leadership. The pres went wild, denied she has done anything wrong, says she is sick of bickering with me and all the emails I send her. Well, I wouldn't send her emails if she'd ever have a board meeting where we could talk, or even just take the time to talk to me, and I have long since given up making suggestions about how we can do things better. I now only answer her emails or send her one if I have a question, which she usually doesn't answer anyway. Plus she made some crazy accusations towards him about things he has supposedly said or done that make me wonder if she is mentally balanced. Even though he answered her email by saying he wishs her well for the rest of the year, she continued sending him crazy mad emails all day long, which he did not respond to.

I have made up my mind to quit, but this morning I got an email from her saying she hopes I won't because I have great ideas (which she never follows!) and am a great help. She also sent an email to the other parent who comes to meeting, whose husband owns a screen printing business and is doing our shirts this year (they also gave us a better deal than other vendors) apologizing for the mishaps with the orders. So I'm thinking, ok, maybe she is changing her ways...until I get to the end of her email to me where she says "It's been crazy trying to get people to communicate with each other this month." Umm, hello? The biggest problem with communication comes from her!

I have written out my resignation as follows:

I feel like it would be in the best interests of everyone involved of I resigned my position as vice president. Besides the lack of communication and organization, I have some serious moral and philosophical differences with the leadership of this group that make it impossible for me to fulfill my term.

I have asked {pres} to sit down with me one on one to talk out our differences and find a way to work together productively, and although she has said she would, she canceled our meeting and has yet to find even one hour to meet with me.

I have apologized for coming on too strong and stepping on other people's toes. My apology was never acknowledged.

I have offerred to help with various projects, such as taking over the t-shirt project because it was not running smoothly and {pres} did not have time to deal with it, and coming in on Thursday during the day to help her set up for the evening book fair. My offers have been ignored. Not refused, but completely ignored.

Many of my questions and emails requesting information that I need in order to plan my schedule so that I can be available to help have gone unanswered.

Twice now meetings to discuss finances have been planned without informing the general membership, and when I offerred to copy and distribute fliers about this meeting, I was given less than 24 hours notice on the deadline and ordered, not asked, to find child care for this meeting.

I have asked to be informed, along with the rest of the board, of the new bank account password. That has not been done. I have suggested other financial safeguards be put into place and this has been ignored. In light of the embezzlement that occurred last year, and the district's role in the situation, I find it very hard to understand this lack of concern for financial oversight.

I cannot, in good conscience, participate in any group that operates in such a manner.

Am I over the top with this? Being unreasonable? If you've read this far, thank you, and count yourself lucky if your problems with PTO are smaller than this
