getting your not for profit status

You can get detailed instructions, just for a PTO, in the PTOtoday Getting Started guide.

You mention "PTA" - are you affiliated with a state PTA? I thought the PTA organization took care of the non-profit filing, but I'm not sure. Someone else on this forum will know. Possibly, you use the term "PTA" generically and are really an independent parent group. Can you clarify

Have you tried the Robert's Rules..Legal section on the forum? That's where most info on this topic is posted. Also, try typing 1023 or non-profit into the search. That should bring up lots of post that may help you. If you have a specific question, post under that section and there are sure to be some folks who can answer.

I know when I filled out our paperwork, I printed the guide that came with the form. I went through it step by step as I filled in the form. Have you tried the non-profit hotline? I called them on a couple things and they were great.

Can anyone give me some advise on how to do this? The IRS isn't the most helpful and I've been going crazy with the 1023 form. Also our PTA has a pretty small budget so far.HELP
