Our Middle School concerts also have a dress code. They wear dark (pref. black) pants or skirt and shoes, and white shirt with a black tie. It works out well for them and looks nice, too.

My daughter is in our middle school orchestra and they just require them to wear black pants or long skirt, white shirt and black shoes and I believe the band and choir do the same. In high school they have robes for the choir, uniforms for band, and the orchestra wears tuxes and gowns or other occasion appropriate attire.

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.

For our grades 6-8, they have a dress code. For 9-12 it depends on what choir it is, there are around 6 in one of the high schools. I think only 1 has robes and they do a fundraiser when needed to help fund the cost to replace these. The others purchase a uniform, a dress or tux to wear. Most schools have you pay a rental fee for the robe that is supposed to help pay for the upkeep and purchase of of new ones when needed. That seems like a big investment for something that's worn twice a year.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

I guess I need to clarify the question. THe music department di go through the right channels. My question is do most schools have robes or do they institute a dress code. THe music department presented up with two otions: one in which the robes cost $20 each and another where the robes cosrt $100 each. Our school has about 115 choir members in 6th-12th grade. I am just trying to get a idea of what schools are doing.
Sorry for the confusion

HI!!! I guess it would depend on your budget but something like that shouldn't really be a PTO issue. The band director should have presented you with a proposal of what the robes would look like & cost. It's not up to the PTO to find this info out. If you decide to purchase the robes, know the cost first, then vote on it. Keep in mind that you may need to purchase additional robes over the years. Where I'm from there is a club called the Band Boosters. They are the ones the band directors go to for things needed and they do FUNDRAISING. Maybe suggest to the band dir. that he could do his own fundraiser or ask the parents to purchase their child's robe. Good Luck!!

The administrators at our school have requested that the music department look into purchasing choir robes for the kids when performing at the Winter and Spring concerts. Tje music department has asked if the parent group can purchase them. I was wondering if other schools have purchased robes and if so, do you have any recommendations for where to purchase the robes?
