Collecting for Katrina victims

No, I am in Louisiana and I can tell you that the pets are also being taken care of. I was working at the shelter for the past 3 days and there are stacks of crates of dogs and cats. They will all need dog food for a long long time. I think you could do it in conjunction with any other fund raising you do.

It's been awhile since I've been on PTO Todays message boards, and it's good to see you're all still here!
The Pres of our HSA approached me today with the idea of making a donation (money or supplies) to the hurricane victims. This is my question: being a big animal lover, is it "tacky" to take up a collection for the people, as well as the pets affected by this? Does it diminish in some way the suffering that people are going through if we also make a donation to, say, PetSmart or Noah's Wish?
