Thanks! I never thought about asking the parents to bring snacks! That would be great. We also thought about requiring parents to pre-register their kids so we would know how many adults we would need.

I appreciate your ideas!

This is a great idea and I am sure many parents will take advantage of it.

Yes, you should have a permission slip. It will give you a head count of how many are attending so you can be better prepared for them. On it should be the phone # of where parent can be reached if need be. The other important thing is to have a sign in and sign out sheet. Let the parents know that they must come in and check their child in and sign their child out.

Using High School kids is also a great idea many of them along with older kids in scouts look to do things like this to earn community service hours.

Whether or not you charge a fee is entirely up to you. You could shoot for just covering your expenses or even making a little extra. We do an event in December that we do ask the parents to bring their child with snacks. Our School is K-3 so we ask that parents of children in grades k & 2 send in baked goods and we ask the parents of kids in grades 1 & 3 to send in at least 4 juice boxes. The parents always send in more then enough and that helps to be one less thing your worried about or running around shopping for as well as keeping down your expenses.

Good Luck! Let us know how it goes!

I am new to PTO this year. Actually all of our PTO Board is new except one. We are talking about having a "Parents' Night Out" in Dec. So -if parents need to Christmas shop or just want to go to dinner - they can bring their children to the school. We are going to plan movies, games, etc. Talking about having some of the high school students help us with the kids. What I need to know is if any of you have ever done this - if so - are there any certain type of permission forms or anything we should use? We want it to be set time (like 6pm - 11pm). We have talked about charging. Do you think that would be bad? Or - how much would you charge? Any help would be great!! For the record I LOVE THIS WEBSITE!!!
