Big Company Tutors Yuk!

Though I have never had this experience, I am friends with a teacher who used to work for one of these places. She said that it would be easier to ask your child's teacher for help or a private tutor recommendation and it wouldn't cost any more than those places and it would be one on one, which is what most kids who are struggling need.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

Has anyone tried to take their children to a Hun&%$#@$ Learning Center or the like. I subjected my 8 year old to 4 hours of testing for them to go over the results line by line and then never give me any specifics on how they would help him. Just he needs 222 hours of tutoring and make the check out to . . . That broke down to a suggestion of 8 hours of tutoring a week for my ADD child to sit in a cubicle during the summer. He's just going into 3rd grade this fall and they felt he needs 35 hours of 3rd grade math. Safety was also a concern. I watched 3 child walk in and out of the center unattended, while I was there and then the director tells me it's policy to drop off and pick up kids in the lobby.

The web has plenty of information on how to franchise with them, including mentioning the director does not need educational background. Boy, I wish I read that first. The web also says these places always try to sell the solution in hours and I believe it.
