OK! 1. Find out about your PTOs By-Laws. Important item to have so you will know how your group is to run and has been doing business.
2. If you can, get what you can from the former President. They should have something, espically contracts for fundraiser companies, events, forms, stuff!
3. Have you ever run a meeting? No? Well, you need to visit your library/bookstore to catch up on Robert's Rules of Order. Now that is just hte name of one reallt great book in regards to parlementary procedures (running a meeting and being organized and just some "How this is suppose to be" kind of information) I love my copy and ready for the updated version!
4.Always have a Plan B. What is this crazy Mom talking about? If you first idea doesn't work, don't lose faith but be ready with a "Plan B".
5. Start talking now to your Principal or at least schedual a lunch over the summer break to meet and just talk! I loved my meeting and had a great time being able to get to talk to her without interuptions (priceless!).
6.HELP!! TAKE IT! Whatever you get! Well, okay, don't be desparate but you know what I mean! A good leader knows when to let others take over and when to step in.
7. Every phone number of your best friends on speed dial! YOU WILL NEED THEM!! HA!
Have fun and don't let the Presidency become you but you become the President.... don't let this take over your life! When it does...go for a walk, play with your child(ren) (I personaly love Barbies!) and relax.
Congratulations Charlotte!! Tim is right- this is a wonderful site to learn how to make your organization run as smoothly as possible. Try to read/review any info your group has from the past to get a feel for what has worked and what hasn't. Good luck!
