enrtyway remodel

In our district, we would have to get several bids for this and submit them with a letter from the PTO stating that it is their intent to pay for said project but because the work is on the district's property, they have to approve it. When we had work done, the district paid for it all and we reimbursed them for our portion of the cost. I know all districts are different but ours requires that everyone that does anywork be a professional and under contract for liability reasons.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

This seems a little out of a PTO"S league. I mean I could see where they might be short funds but i have a feeling that this is more costly than you think. I think professionals should be consulted but also wonder why the district is looking at your pto? Seems like it could be a liability issue if your group took this on and something happen. be careful...

First off you need approval from the Super and the BOE. The principal can say yes all he/she wants, but that does not make it so.

If the Super and BOE give approval then why not try to get it done during the remodel by whomever is doing the work?

I honestly think you'd need to approach professionals (construction/remodel experts) and get some bids or assistance. With zoning regulations, ADA standards, building permits, safety issues - I just can't imagine that adding anything structural to a school could be a do-it-yourself project.

The PTO might be able to get professionals to volunteer their time or discount materials. But I couldn't see a bunch of dad's tackling this one weekend without at least someone to supervise who knows the construction business and the standards/rules that must be followed.

Hi I'm just wondering if anyone else has had the problem of being asked to enclose an entryway for their school? and if so is there a kit that will help with it?
Our school has an old entryway that is falling down (all it is a covered area (like small carport) being the school is supposable going to fix it anyway it was asked that we also think about inclosing it at the same time. Our principle said it would be OK but the PTO would have to pay for all the extras. The problem is we need to have some idea of the cost before we even dream of saying OK. Someone had told one of our members that they tought there was a kit out there to do it but as of a day ago I still haven't found one. Please if any one has any ideas for this project please let me know. Thanks for any help I can get.
