What grades are in your middle school?

19 years 9 months ago #71855 by Critter
6,7,8 in our district, but in my sister's district, they have all the 5/6 graders in one building. She's a 6th grade teacher and feels strongly that 6th graders belong "down", not "up".

6,7,8

Around here, I've never heard of 5th being in middle school. But in my sisters town, they had to reorganize and ended up with a separate 5th-6th grade center between elementary and middle school. I really like that approach.

we live in a small rural town, and our elementary school is home to k-5. our middle/high school is home to 6-12.

I know this doesn't have much to do with PTO but I'm trying to rally support at my school to put 5th grade back to the elementary level instead of with the 6,7 and 8th graders.

Does anyone have any experience with this topic?

Currently our Superintendent is conducting meetings with the public about facility expansion and the buzz is to 'build a new middle school' because of overcrowding. A handful of parents (so far) have voiced opinions about moving 5th grade back to the elementary school.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
