you said it was brought into your school? Is the paper generally in the school? I think if our principal knew that there was something that graphic that she would have prevented it from being in the schools. I am guessing that maybe your principal didnt know....I would be shock to know my child could read something like that at school. Of course alot of homes don't really limit stuff like that either . Not sure what to tell you....just wondering who brought it into schools. AS far as reading the paper I know it has been a tool that is used for current events, etc. Maybe it's time to find a different paper for the kids to read???
This is completely off topic, but I felt that I could get very good feedback from all of the readers of this website. Recently, a young man in our community was arrested for gross sexual misconduct with a dog. Three of our newspapers reported it in a journalistically responsible manner, not mentioning any details, just that he was arrested. Our local community-based paper, which is brought into our elementary school K-5, reported it but with all the graphic, disgusting details that were on the police report. The students are encouraged to read this paper weekly. As as parent, I found the details quite shocking and unnecessary. The editor of the newspaper is unphased by the feedback he has received. I am searching other legal websites to find whether or not protection under the First Amendment applies here. Does anyone have any ideas or have experience with this topic?
