Strange Email from ZacKPacK

20 years 3 months ago #70714 by Critter
I have received several unsolicited emails from companies who obviously pulled my email address from this forum. I forward them to Tim at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. He will contact the sender and politely but firmly remind them that the forum is for discussion only, not advertising or pilfering. So far, none of the emails I have received have contained a virus, but like MichelleB, I have a good virus scanning system (I hope!).

After my most recent experiences with viruses from hell! First, get a good, updates daily, virus protection program like Symantec. (I had three viruses and my computer had to be wiped clean to get rid of the third) After clearing everything and getting the symantec program (with daily updates) I have had a virus try to enter via an online PDF file and many via e-mail. The program deletes the virus in the e-mails and scans every e-mail before you even see it has an attachment.
As for this e-mail, I've never heard of the organization (if you don't have a good virus program don't open it!!!) but I have received one or two unsolicited spams that pulled my e-mail address off of here a month or so ago when the forums were "hijacked" that specifically said to PTO today members.
I've also received many more educational(?) e-mails but can't confirm they used my address from here. (I'm signed up on Edweek and one other so who knows?)
Anyhow, you probably did the right thing but if anyone else is reading this-GET A VIRUS PROGRAM (I had one before but it didn't do daily updates and the viruses that got me were very new/morphed)!!! It is worth it!

One or two other times I've seen posts from people who have a similar concern about unsolicited email, though not from the company you mentioned. It's easy enough for spammers to pick up your email from this message board if you put it in your profile. The way to avoid giving them access is to go to your profile and not make your email address visible to everyone--there's an option where you can allow people to send you email without showing what your email is. I do that, and still regularly get email from other forum posters without a problem--and it keeps the spam away.

I typed in zackpack in the search window and came up with alot of medical/dental sites. Most of them had something to do with hemophilia. I would be leary of opening that email. According to the PTA magazine the "official" teacher appreciaion week is the first week in May.

Never heard of zackpack, but National Teacher Appreciation Day is Tues. May 4, so therefore I'm thinking that Teacher Appreciation Week is that week? Hope someone els can be more helpful with what zackpack is?

I received an email entitled "Teacher Appreciation Letter" from 'ZacKPacK". I do not recognize this name and our teacher appreciation week has been concluded for over a month. I am concerned it may be a virus - and that someone may have taken my name (in involvement with my school) from the PTOToday web site.

Has anyone else had something like this? I deleted the email and never opened it. It had an attachment, and also there was a second email with the Revised TAW letter.
