Would you be willing to work with the families' school and tutor on site afterschool. With most school's requiring a background check (just sounds scary) that could be the little safety blacket or warm fuzzy that I would like.
We have a music teacher that offers lessons as his own business after school. This way also, you could have direct communications with the student's teacher and parents with concerns or praises!

I agree with the above posts. The only way I would consider it was if you allowed me to stay in your apartment at the same time. I would find a more public place to do the tutoring.

I would not be comfortable taking my child to someone's home either. I also would suggest traveling to the student's home or finding a communtiy room in a library or other public building that you could use.

I'd have to agree with Jerseygal here--unless I had a recommendation from someone I knew and trusted, I think I would be a little uncomfortable. Maybe you could start up in a library, and then move to your home after you built up a base of business. Or maybe you could travel to people's homes? Does your apartment complex have a community center you could use?

No offense intended....but I would personally be uncomfortable with it. In this day and age, with all we see on TV...well you know. It's not how nice the building is, or how nice the person seems - it's always the last person you suspect. At least that's the stand I take with my kids. I would never put them in a situation like that. Maybe if the parent could stay? Sorry, I know this isn't what you wanted to hear.

I am a private tutor seeking help from you parents! After tutoring for two years in CA, I am trying to set up a new tutoring business in GA.

However, I have one big dilemma. In CA, I would meet my "tutees" in the public library (because I was living in a college dorm at the time). The library worked out pretty well, but I did have a few complaints.

The library could get crowded, noisy, and distracting. Plus, sometimes a tutee's classmate would pass by and they would get a little embarrassed being seen with a tutor.

My question for you is: would you feel comfortable bringing your child to a tutor's home?

I live in a nice, two bedroom apartment in an upscale gated apartment complex. I was planning on setting up a home tutoring office in one of the bedrooms.

Do you think this would be appropriate? Or should I stick to the public library?
