Why do you have to change your parent group name? We got Comer about 4 years ago, and it's really helped a lot! The staff is very excited about it. Good luck on yours. It will be worth the extra effort.

Our school JUST received the Comer Grant in 2002 and we have our first Parent Team meeting in June, 2003.

I think if you have specific questions, you should contact your parent/teacher liaison. The parent group will have a liaison and the teacher group will have a liaison.

The little I know about it is confusing, but it's getting the teachers fired up about it. If the teachers will back the program, it will probably work.

I think the base is to get parents involved IN school, DURING school and AFTER school. The parents actually have a voice and are involved in day-to-day planning. At the moment, it's very meeting intensive for the parents who want to really get involved. The parents actually go to a weekend training session out of town to hear the scope of this.

I'm still not quite sure how this will impact our parent group - as we'll have to change our name.

LOL not a lot of people have heard of it. I too did a search, but was unable to find my answer. Maybe I am trying to be to specific when this program is all about theories. Thank you for helping.

I had never heard of James Comer until five minutes ago. But a Google search for "Comer School" turns up what looks like pretty good resources. Good luck.

Is anyone out there knowledgable about COMER? We have been a COMER school for about 3 years now and I am still confused on what it is exactly. I've even gone to the training. I am looking for a specific thing in the guidelines, but do not want to discuss it here. If you can help, please leave your email address. Thank you very much.
