I would like to know if anyone else around has had any problems with their districts tring to have the following

The other day at our PTO meeting I brought up that we would like to host a vendor night where
we invite vendors from all over to come to the school. A few people made mention that we should charge for table space a motion was made and passed. Mind you the principal and asst principal were both there and thought the idea was a good one. Then I brought up about having a college funding night I explained what it was and everyone at the meeting thought it would be a wonderful idea. I did make note though that they had done this at the high school recently but I thought having it at the middle school and inviting the other middle school and elementary schools in the area would be great. I also told them that my husband was a financial advisor with
american express and he would be speaking along with antoher senior advisor who has been in the business for over 30 years. Everyone like I said was really excited. The principal again thought it would be a great idea. Problem: anytime we want to do these things we hear we have to ask district approval. They are always tring to stop us from doing things. We explained that both these nights were strickly informational and that we were not selling anything. I spoke with the principal yesterday and he informed me that the
district told him we can not do either. I was really upset. I went ahead and emailed the district myself and questioned why and if there were a policy I wanted to see one. I got back the following answer and mind you other schools in the district over the years have done both.
(I will talk with the principal and come up with the details for you. It will be a few days before we can get you what you want. Some things may have been done in the past which did not match up with the policies. That would not justify starting another situation which does not meet policy.) What gets me is they still can not show me on paper in black and white what the policies are but yet they can tell us what we can and can not do. I hope someone out there can give me some light on what myself along with the rest of our
PTO can do to get this problem resolved. Thanks
Robin
