Our school district recognizes whichever day is the "official" date for take your child to work day. A couple of years ago they started using this day as one of the 1/2 days that they schedule the kids in school 1/2 day and the other half day is staff development so the district meets its requirement as far as continuing ed for the staff and they don't have as many kids absent from school who are going to work with their parents. They are considering for 2003-2004 (next year's calendar is already set) making it a full day off from school. It is either pretty popular for kids to go to work with their parents around here or they just blow it off altogether. I'd prefer to think it's the former rather than the latter.

Do your schools have "Take Your Children To Work Day"? (It really started as "Take your Daughter to Work".) The date is/was in April, but schools didn't want the students to miss a day of school, so they often set an alternate day. Around here (Austin, TX), most of the districts have chosen July 17th. It's listed on the school calendar, but being in the summer, the schools don't do much about it, of course.

It doesn't seem to get as much recognition and coverage as a few years ago. I remember special interest bits on the news and notices in the paper. I'd enjoy hearing what is happening in your communities with this (and what date you use).
