I guess it would depend on what type of fundraiser your doing. If the PTO memebrship feels comfortable with the items/services being sold then it would be fine. The sticky situation would be at voting time...I would give the parent the same courtesy as I would any person from a fundraising company. Our group invites them to come to a meeting and we take a vote as to wether or not we'll go with that person. I would insist that the parent step out of the room at that point so there would be no hard feelings...Having that person on the fundraising committee is a definate conflict of interest. I have a different point of view than the other posts...I would not mind if a family of the school profited from a fundraiser...afterall companies profit from us all the time. In all reality it is the parent who is doing the fundraising that has the most to lose in this situation, if they don't do a great job they don't get to just walk away like another company would...they have to stay there and face the music so to speak.
i agree we recently had a dance and several pto board members family did the dj, pictures and one of their dads brought in hats and sold them, i have yet to see any money receited to our account.
hello again newpres. I just seem to want to comment on all of your topics. I thank it is diff. a conflict of interest on that committe member/parent/business owner. Now, we had a fund raiser where we offered professional photos of the children with Santa Clause. The Photographer was a PTO member/parent but they only keep enough to cover expenses and that was all(about 35%) The PTO keep the remaining 65%. The parent did it to support the PTO as well as advertise their business. Hope you are still smiling
Anyone out there have their opinions on a member (parent) of the PTO being the host company of the fundraiser. Our Spring Fundraiser was selected and not only is the company a home business opportunity for a member but the member is also on the Fundraising Committe. It's not a bad fundraiser, don't get me wrong, however, I am not certain that I feel okay with a parent making a profit off of the school (students). What is some opinions, maybe I am way off base with my opinion.
