Thanks for the ideas. We were thinking of a picnic. I really like the idea about the community project. Will have to give that one some more thought. Thanks again.

Our PTC covers 2 Elementary Centers that our grades 1-5. At the end of the school year we to host a picnic for our 5th graders. The kids bring a picnic lunch, we pay for a DJ and water ice. We also organize some games-such as relays and things where the kids have to team up with kids from the other school. They also play soccer and baseball as well-we had approx 250+ at last years picnic. It went really well.
One thing that was mentioned and we are still "thinking about" is maybe trying to get the kids together during the year to work on a project that would benefit the community as a whole for example our local Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization has a bowling for Kids Sake-the students would make up teams with bowlers from both schools and bowl to raise money for this oganization-like I said this is an area we are still thinking about.
Good Luck.

Why not just do a picnic? Still a social occasion but casual-probably cheaper too.

Our school district has two grade schools that get combined at 6th grade into one junior high school. Usually every year both PTOs get together and sponsor a 5th grade social so the kids can meet each other before starting junior high. In the past the social has been a dance. There are several parents on both PTOs that think a dance at this age is inappropriate and the kids would probably like to do something less boy/girl formal. Needless to say we are having trouble coming up with ideas. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
