I sympathize fully and feel exactly the same way. Much as I love the kids and school and feel rewarded by our work on the PTO, it does seem to be an "insatiable beast" at times. (We have a great Board, wonderful parents. There are just so many great ideas, so many needs to fill, that once it starts we seem to get sucked in body and soul.)
I have to admit a temporary feeling of dread and procrastination for the moment. But I also know in my head that once we get started (this week) I'll quickly get enthused and be as excited as anyone.
The advice given here by the others is great (as usual). Plus, it's nice to have a venue to simply vent these kind of feelings!
I felt the same way as returning president one year. What helped me was to think of all the things that I had done last year and made a list of all the things I did not want to be responsible for this year. And I delegated those things off! I also made a list of all the things I knew I needed to do and what I could do now! This really got me in gear. By the time school started I had many newsletters started and agendas for meetings and flyers. All I needed to do was plug in the last minute info when they were due. Chin up! We cannot always be on top of our game! Best Wishes
Have you gotten together with your Exec. Board yet? Is it the same people you worked with last year, or are some new? We have pretty much a new board (2 of us were officers last year, but we have very little "history" or background about how things REALLY work). At any rate, we've had 2 Exec. Board meetings so far this summer & we've had fun & are starting to get more psyched about the school year. We even had Margaritas at our first meeting. (It may not have been the most productive meeting, but we had fun & I think that's important in learning how to work as a team.)
Anyway, all this is a LONG way of saying try to do something fun with your exec. board.
Help. I was the prez last year and will be the prez again this year. I know we can have a very successful year and that we are here for the kids. The problem is I just can't get motivated yet for September. I just don't have the energy or drive that I had last year. Any suggestions on how to get psyced?
