Debbie - glad to see you are excited about it. I really thought there were a lot of ways these tools might be useful. Even beyond sharing among volunteers, there have been times I'd like access to a particualr document/spreadsheet from anywhere - even if I was the only one using it.

Here's a link to ancedotes of how people are using it.

WOW! I am so excited. I spent a few hours looking this over and making up some fake documents, tried to learn a bit more about spread sheets and I am GEEKED!!! This is exactly what I've been looking for!!! I can make our volunteer lists according to what they sign up for and share the link with those who need it and still be able to update. JHB, you are truly an asset, thank you so much!

By the way, if someone wants to know what we are talking about, here's the original thread. Google has free tools where you can post documents or spreadsheets and whomever you specify can see or edit the files.

Thanks! I thought these would be a great help to us since we are a geographically diverse school. Some of our kids are 23 miles away. This would have allowed me to get information out there until the website was up and running.

I think Tim's right. Your computer must have cookies/passwords stored so that that site already recognizes you and takes you directly to your account.

For me, I get to a login screen. Once I login, I see the documents I've set up. When you go into a doc or spreadsheet, over on the right are two tabs called SHARE and PUBLISH. Depending on what your settings are, that's who can see or edit the files.

So this is the website to an example set of officer descriptions:
docs.google.com/Doc?id=ddbrpjhj_1gs8b8w

If you click on it, I think anyone can see it.

Actually, I thought these tools were really very cool when I learned of them but no one else (at the time) wanted to "play", so I haven't had much reason to go back to them.

I do still think there are some great applications for parent groups.

I'm not that good. I'd assume google cookied you and is taking you to your own account. The link is generic.
