Crossing Guards for our school

Our area doesn't have any at any of the schools. They send us a police officer when they have a free one, maybe once a week.

All I know about this is that our crossing guards are hired by our police department. Any time they call off, a policeman shows up. You might want to check with them.

Today the principal asked me if the PTO would be willing to fund a crossing guard for our school. I said it would be a great thing but neither one of us know how to do this.

How do you ask the public for this? (volunteer or hire someone)

Is there special training or certification that they could get to be even safer?

I'm pretty sure our group would be willing to pay for this, but what does a crossing guard usually make?

Anything else I didn't think about?

Thanks!!!
