Event management

You can do what you want if you set up each thing as a separate event--for example, admissions and tickets (first hour)=one event, admissions and tickets (second hour)=another event, etc. But that's admittedly kind of awkward. Or consolidate a bit and have "admission and tickets" just be an event, and assign within there, but that doesn't do quite the same thing for you. I agree that looking at holes isn't easy.

The PTO Today folks do a good job coming up with creative resources and services. Anything they develop would be good. But until/unless they fill this need...you might look at www.mysignup.com/

There's no cost if you don't mind Google ads. You can pay a fee for no ads and some advanced features.

My church uses this extensively, for example for staffing of the pumpkin patch where we need X adults and X childer per 2 hour block for dozens of shifts over the two weeks or so we sell pumpkins. It's wonderful (as a parent) to be able to go online, see what shifts are available, and simply sign up or change my time.

I've looked at it from the organizer side, and I warn you - it is a little clunky to get used to. But after a little practice, it becomes quite easy.

I think their link is broken on the front page to "samples". But here's the direct link for a Spring Fling. (Note - it's really simplistic, but you get the idea.) www.mysignup.com/cgi-bin/view.cgi?datafile=springfling

I like being able to have people sign themselves up to volunteer for events.

However, on the event organization side it would be nice to be able to sort the assignment list by name, job, or shift. It would also be helpful to have a more fine-grained event system available that would allow the event chair really specify what they need.

For example, we are running a spring fair. I need 10 people to work admissions and tickets - 4 for the first hour, 4 for the 2nd hour, 2 for the third hour. There are probably 10 other tasks like that, each one with a different set of shift requirements. I'd like to be able to specify those requirements up front and have volunteers pick from the available tasks and/or shifts. I'd also like to be able to see where I have holes in my plan. Most of this I can do by exporing to Excel, but maintaining 2 data repositories is a bit of a pain.

I'm pretty sure none of this is in the system today, but I know that the PTOManager folks frequent these boards so was hoping they might know if something like this could be in the works?
