Question...

I agree with GAMOM--our teachers do not get paid enough to buy expensive wardrobes. They are there to teach our children and they get the respect by how they conduct themselves not what they wear!
My kids go to a private school and our principal allows them to dress "down" when the kids get to. Once a month they get a dollar dress down day and then teachers get to dress down on Fridays when the students have gym wear days.
Never had a problem with our school and to tell you the truth, from experience, usually the ones who complain about it are the ones who don't understand it.

For the parent who said "the problem with disrespect is because of jeans" is total hogwash, most of it comes from what they see and learn from home not the fact that the teachers are wearing jeans!! . Corporate America has casual fridays so why can't our teachers--it teaches the kdis that they are human too! ;)
Good luck to all!!

What to do with the nay sayers? From our experience, they will never be happy. Just don't change things for the one or two who are always unhappy. Go with what the majority seem to think. You might need some ear plugs, wish I had a pair last year! But our Miss Wonderful has moved away, darn!

Thanks for your opinions!! Most of the people in our area support this. There are a couple who don't and blame the lack of respect kids show these days on jeans!! Please!

One person in particular comes up with "studies" that "show" dress down Fridays are on the way out and so on. Whatever!

She is now on a kick that PTO's are just "Social Clubs". So, once again, I am defending the schools and the parents who bust the bottoms to support our children and schools.

Sorry, just needed to vent!

Thank goodness for jeans and Fridays! I'm a teacher and we live for these days! I'm constantly on my feet or sitting on the floor, so jeans are so comfy. The school I teach and the school my boys attend both allow jeans on Fridays - that's across our district. During the spring, we can purchase jeans days stickers throughout the week for the March of Dimes. I'm a huge fan of jeans (can you tell?)

When teachers start getting paid what they are worth, then they can start dressing "professionally". But when you are underpaid and over worked, comfort is a must.
Teachers also have to deal with body fluids--who would want their nice clothes ruined by some kids blood?

Smart child, CC! :D
