Ask your room mothers to come up with a theme or idea for what they would like to put on the doors. Like a big moon with litte stars. Have the kids write something about the teacher that they love on the stars. Or a big apple tree with little apples and they could write on the apples. If you go to a teachers web site and look for BULLETIN BOARD ideas you will find some very creative things on there that might help.

We're having the kids fill out what they like about their teachers on a flower cut out (our theme this year). They will be used to decorate the doors with.

We had a "poster day" at the beginning of last year's Teacher Appreciation Week. Our theme was "Thank You for Planting the Seeds of Success," and we asked the kids to bring in posters, from 8 1/2 x 11" to poster board size, by the Friday before that week to thank the teachers and staff. Then a few of us took all the posters that had come in and decorated the hallways. We had wonderful results, everything from pictures of all the teachers a fifth-grader had over the years to posters bordered with hand-made, tissue paper flowers.

Last year we sent out flyers which had empty stars on them. Students and parents had to fill in the stars with what they appreciated about their teachers. It could be classroom teachers, specialists or general staff. The flyer stated that it was a surprise, not to show the staff and to put the finished flyer in a box in the office. Then, parent volunteers cut out the stars and decorated each teacher or staff members door with the stars. Of course, some staff members didn't receive many stars, so we gathered some kids and parents to make stars for them. The teachers and staff loved it and many still have their doors decorated with these.

We are currently planning for Teacher Appreciation Week and are needing decoration ideas for the teacher's doors. Any suggestions? We're not focusing the week around a theme so that makes our job easy and difficult at the same time.

I'll take any easy and cute door decorating ideas you have.

Thanks,
Julie
