Arts Fest- staff idea

18 years 3 months ago #66629 by mominct
I just had to share a great idea our district PT Council put on this weekend. We sponsored an Arts Fest, which showcased the hidden talents of teachers, administrators and other staff members from the district. It was held on Sunday afternoon at one of the high school's auditoriums. From 2-3pm, there was an exhibit of photography, fine arts and poetry, following by a 3pm showcase which featured singers, dancers, rap artists, film, pianists, and a finale of a jam band! Almost every school (which includes 12 elementary, 5 middle and 3 high schools) had some staff member participating and there were many surprises. Who knew that a second grade teacher was a dancer/choreographer? Or, two high school English teachers were hip hop artists? A group of P.E. teachers, a 3rd grade teacher and music teachers performed in a rock and roll band or a reading specialist directed short films? One of the biggest surprises was when the district social studies head performed in an a cappella group! We were worried that it would turn out to be a bad American Idol show, but these were all professional grade artists. The house was packed and all proceeds will go towards mini-grants for arts programs in the district.
Our purpose was to involve more teachers in the PTOs, highlight the arts, and have a fun family event and we definitely achieved that. I can't recommend something like this enough!
