We had an evening reception (in the gym) for our new principal to which all staff members, PTO Exec. Board members and committee chairpeople were invited. The PTO provided sandwiches, cookies, soft drinks and water. There was no agenda - just a meet and greet. It was kept very low key as staff members were very nervous about the change of principals.

I am literly in the middle of planning such event! Our new Director started right at the begining of the year so it was hard to plan anything and he was great about waiting until this Spring. We are planning a dinner (something simple) with information avalable about changes our charter school will be making.

Sorry, I'm still in the planning stages but the dinner was first on HIS list!!

He is just awsome!

Actually, we don't know who our new principal will be yet, but I wanted him/her to feel accepted and maybe have a "getting to know you night", etc. Any other ideas on what to do?

have patience and let them feel you out before you write them off. Last year our principal/founder of our group was promoted to asst superintendent. there was NO way I was going to accept anyone else since she was such an huge advocate for parent involvement. Well after two interim principals we hired one three weeks before school and he is okay!
I am not sure that I would call the other school, only because you are a different group with totally different personaitlies than that group, maybe what worked for them wont work for you. The other thing that our new principal said to me was that he wasn't sure how to take our group because his old school had 6-7 regulars and we have about 40 regulars...took him a while but he is coming around. I would recommend meeting with them at least once a month, dont get caught up in the rumor mill, and be honest with the person. Do i like our new principal...yes I do and I am glad that I didn't write him off...it takes time to build any type of relationship!

Great question! Our Principal is moving on this year also and I have no clue as to who is replacing him. Usually our school board moves a Principal or VP from another school and then replace that person from within the system. They have never hired from the "outside" so to speak. This is great, because then you can contact the parent group from where this person is coming from to see how best to work with this person.
Just an idea. Anyone have anymore ideas?

We just found out that our principal is moving to another school. We will be getting a new one soon. Any ideas for getting to know him/her, getting parents more involved now that there is a new principal? Any ideas on what I can do, as the PTO Pres. to help with the transition? Thanks!!!
