pto has no bylaws--principal is running the meetings--everyone on the board is employed by the school- so that is a big conflict to me--everyone has the " I can't " so now what

I ran into the same situation this yr. Our school system went thru. a major restructuring last yr. & again thsi yr. My school closed for this school yr. so I decided to go to the pto at my 2nd grader's school. There was a president but was tossed into it last yr. & didn't know what to do so the principal ran the meetings. This yr. I was voted in as Pres.(I spent 7 yrs with my old pto)I am the only one with experience. I came in with an agenda & had to tell eveyone that we must VOTE before $$$$ can be spent. The principal just sat back & let me run the meeting. The agenda is a big thing. Gotta have one.

I believe this has been around a while, I'm not sure how active it was. I think there is not very much parent involvement..

Is this a new group? Some groups seem to be more ran by the principal in newer situations. If not then could it be that no one has stepped up to take the responsibility of running the group? Is there past history that may say why it is this way. Please let us know a little more info as far as how new a group you are, from there we can probbaly help a little better.
