This is city and school district funded. You are under no obligation to pay for it unless you offered to do so. If the city wants you off the street, then they must come up with the money!

I thought this principal sounded familiar . . . I read about her in another thread a while back, didn't I?
Ask around, you never know which parent may be or know of an architect who will design for you free or cheap. If you have all of the necessary permits and such, go through with your plans.
I have to laugh at a principal who "is not in favor of parents" -- where does she suppose the kids come from? :D

It comes down to the fact that our principal is trying to find another way to keep the parents out of the building. She has made it clear over and over she is not in favor of parents. She put chains on locks on the doors at the beginning of the year. She had to remove these after we called the fire marshall. This afternoon she asked the pre-k parents if they wanted to drop their kids at the door or walk them in. They want to walk them in, so she is going to have to back off and go with what was voted on. Her husband is an engineer and drew up the drive through plans at no charge. She says we will have to hire our own engineer to draw up new plans. It's not what she wants so she's not going to help or ask her husband to.

I don't understand why you are spending PTO money on this, this is something you should put preassure on you town or city to have done, they own the school land unless this is a private school.

Forgive me here... you can do major construction like that without the approval or knowledge of the school district?! Our chater school recently built a $5 million dollar parking garage and event center and I tell ya, it took the city, state, school district and whomever else you want to throw in there to get it done! These plans also took 6 months to finalize with another seven to build. Sure parking lots are not that much "work" but do take planning.

I need to ask you this- when did it become the parents vs the principal? Sure the parents voted and raised the money but isn't the principal resposible for what happens at, on and around school property?

Last year several parents spent the year with the notion of us vs them. Resolutions have been found but a few of us everyday laugh we are a topic away from a Dr. Phil show! Please don't let this get that bad! It will be much easier to see both sides and work together than to not to.

At our last meeting our organization voted to build a parking lot for the school since the parking situation is terrible. The principal wanted a drive through to drop the pre-k kids at the door and be signed in there rather than the parents walking the kids in. We discussed the 2 options at the meeting and voted for a parking lot. I have gotten everything going to get started on the parking lot. Now the principal has taken it upon herself to have plans done for the drive through even though that's not what we approved. Of course she wants the $8000 we raised to pay for it. Later today we are going to meet with the supertindent and show her our meeting minutes and see what we can do.
