Teacher Conflict

We are a public school. Thus far we have not decided what course of action to take. Every board member has a different opionion on what to do. The principal is not happy about their decision. The worse part is that what they are really doing is attempting to back us into a corner to wage war for them. We are most hurt because they could have come and spoken to us and asked for out assistance and we would have done our best to help them. We have never denied them anything. Instead of doing it the right way and talking to us and working with us, they have decided to betray us and extort a reaction from us. We have always had a great relationship with them and we are extemely hurt and feel like we have been slapped in the face. I fear that even after the issue is resloved that we will never feel the same about them again.

Oh my goodness, is this a public or private school? They're just stabbing themselves in the foot with that attitude. Now, at our private school, our teachers are not asked to pay dues or attend any meetings (because it is a "Parents' Club") but if the principal TELLS them to pass something out, THEY WILL. I would think your principal could require them to do that? Otherwise, you as volunteers would have to visit the classrooms and pass out the info?

I might point out the teachers the things that you do that BENEFITS THEM. If they choose not to help you then, everyone loses. YOU, as the PTO, are not responsible for their contracts so why are they taking it out on you?

I just don't know what to say...perhaps some other folks can chime in on this bad situation..

Sorry for what you're going through.

Hi! we have a situation here where our teachers have not reached an agreement with the board on their contracts and they are now working without contracts.

We were informed by the teachers a few days ago that since they are now without a contract that they are taking their stance by no longer supporting our parent organization in any capacity. They will not be paying dues, they will not be participating in any fundraising, and they will not pass out any fundraising materials to the children. Now, years ago when a similar situation occured the teachers did stop doing anything extra, but they did not take it out on the Parent Organization.

Of course they only filled us in on their intentions after we spent our money supplying them with all sorts of things for their classrooms.

Before I continue with my rant...I would just like to know if anyone else has had this happen to them? and if so how did you handle it?
