According to the NJPTA state bylaws --
Article VII/section 4.... "a vacancy occuring in an office shall be filled for the unexpired term by a person elected by a majority vote of the remaining members of the executive board."

So if you're from NJ your principal has no right or no say in who finishes out the vacated term. That right is left to the executive board!

From the sound of it I don't think just changing to a PTO will solve your problems. It sounds like your PTA going downhill may have a sour reputation/image, we went through this and although yes we switched to PTO it was a very long haul to get over that reputation/image. You bylaws should tell you about officers and if they can be "selected", Im guessing they probably say they have to be elected. If thats the case you need a overhaul..sorry.We dont do alot with bylaws but there are alot of people on this forum that should be able to help answer that better than I can.good luck...

Three years ago, we had a PTA president who was awesome, after she had served her term, another President was elected. The last two years, the PTA has gone downhill. I have requested that we change to a PTO but our school super would like for us to stick to the PTA. Our PTA is a mess and I don't have the bylaws in front of me. The PTA officers have quit and last year at the end of the year, there were two more appointed by the Principal (which was part of the problem). Do they still hold office? I don't know where to go.....Please Help!!!
