hello new here! need basic ??? answered

If I were you, I'd be calling the Superintendents office, asking to set up a meeting so you can discuss this with him. After that, I'd be going to the school board meetings in your town and speaking up there.

As far as him making my child walk around all day in socks, I would have ripped him a new a**hole by now! After I was done with him, I'd have been in the Supers office & on the phone with the Board of Ed.

I don't care who the man thinks he is, but no one has the right to do that to a child!!

If you don't get anywhere, come to our school. Our principal has no spine so he would never think of doing anything like that to any child.

At our school rolling back packs are also not allowed due to space restraint and safety precautions. We also are not allowed to bring in any bake goods or snack that is not prepackaged, basically no home made stuff. This was started along time ago when psychos were putting stuff in tylenol, etc(remember when??) and to this day it is the same policy.
As far as getting your principal fired that comes from the superintendent recommendation to your school board.Im not sure what trying to get him fired will do for you. Does he have a good track record with staff, test scores, stuff like that? If you dont have support then it could backfire on you,
You could meet with your super and ask about these policies, you will probably find that they are few of hundreds and hundreds of policies. The way our school board works is that they have a board policy commitee that looks at policies in a rotating method, it takes a few years to get through them all and they start all over again. In our district if a parent questions a policy then the policy commitee may decide to look at it then if they feel it is warranted. For example I complained about our parent involvement compact and policy. The compact has been totally rewritten and the policy will be looked at this year. They agreed that it needed to be changed but also said that there are so many things that they look at unless it gets pointed out by someone then it just waits til the committee gets to that policy.
Talk to your super and see where the policies are coming from, alot of them are probably coming from higher up and your principal's hands are tied.As far as the shoe thing,that I would question why that took place. At our school our nurse has "extra" shoes, clothing that kids are given to wear if they get real dirty, fall in the mud, etc. if there is nothing there then they call home, and the child has to wait til someone can bring in clean clothes.Good luck

These should be policies that are decided by the administration. Our school does not allow rolling back packs either. Due to space constraints they had children falling over them and they became a hazard to the children. If you have questions about the policies just ask about them. You may come to find out that there are very valid reasons for them.

School administrations are usually the ones who decide those type of things. PTO's have nothing to do with school policies.

PTO's all functiion differently but for the most part your job is to pick up the slack for or fulfill anything that is lacking. That is why most PTO's fundraise to raise money to pay for things that the kids might not otherwise get.
Also, PTO's are not part of the school. You are your own organization that functions within the school. Thus why you cannot enforce policies. And as a seperate organization the school has the right to not allow you to function within their school if that is what they choose.

the parents that are involved are butt kissers!!

Are they really butt kissers? Or could they just be people who have learned to have a working relationship with this man in order to get the job done? Because you are a seperate organization you have to have the principlas approval for the things you do. You really need to have some type of working relationship with this person. Believe me there is nothing better then a principal that supports a PTO and backs them.

Have you ever spoken with the Superintendent about your concerns? If not I think that is something you should consider.

and you should find out first hand what is going on.

I have seen people try to get principals fired. While I am sure it has happened, I personally have not seen them be successful at it.

My best advice to you would be get involved, find out what is going on in depth by being part of the process and speak with your Super.

I thought of something else. Our school is pre school- 4th grade. the prinsciple does not allow field trips for any other classes except 4 grade because it is there last year. This does not seem to fair to me at all. All of the children work very hard all year long and should be rewared!

Hello All,
We have are first pto meeting coming up. Are principle is very controlling. I feel like are children are in prison instead of school I never have attended before. But am tired of hearing everyone complain about him. I would like to help change things this year and need help. does a principle have right to make all decisions?? for example he says no baked goods aloud in school. no rolling backpacks, these just to name a few. Teachers are scared to death of him, the parents that are involved are butt kissers!!

could someone explain basics of Pto meetings to me?
beleiveme it would take all day to write every thing this principle has done. My 6 years olds sons shoes where dirty 1 day last year. he made my son take his shoes off and walk in his socks all day in the middle of winter!!
the biggest question myself and other parents have.
