Teachers/Principal Also Parents

let me also add that any professionl person should know what is expected as a parent, a member and of course principal and keep those roles seperate. It is a tricky role but it should be able to done. in reality they have to be able to know what role they should play, they do it everyday. I mean they don't treat a irate parent the same as they do a staff member. It's part of running the "organization(school)"

Im not sure I understand what problems might occur with your principal. Our principal's children also go to our school (this year one is moving up to Junior High). What i have found is that she is always good about having them help set up, take down, be gophers, clean up after events, etc. I can't say that we have ever had any issues arrived because she is a parent at our school. If anything I think it excites her a little more at times. like when her son won a monthly contest that we held. She has alot more at stake....both as principal and a mom!

I may be missing what problem could arise from the situation but I would think of a principals children attending the school as a GOOD thing. There child will also benefit from all the good your PTO does - and that should only strengthen your PTOs relationship with your principal.

We have a brand new PTO at a brand new public design center (magnet) school. We have incorporated as a non-profit. We are now trying to get by-laws together to propose to the membership to be approved. One issue that has come up is the fact that 100% of those teachers w/elementary age kids have their kids at the school, including the principal. So, we are trying to figure out how to deal with this - we are not so concerned with the teachers, but the issue with the principal is kinda tricky. The principal is wonderful and, so far, we have not had any issues. Anyone have any recommendations for keeping the balance of power in check?

TIA for all help.
