No Principal . . .help!

I feel your pain. Our school just experienced this same situation last year with our principal departing 2 weeks before the start of the school year. You're lucky if there is already an interim principal in place - we were without for a good month. My suggestion: find out who the interim is now and explain your situation regarding finalizing plans, perhaps you can arrange a meeting prior to the start of school. We were not able to keep our interim princ. so we now have yet another (although this one is permanent). We loved our interim princ. and wanted to keep her but it wasn't meant to be, but she was a wonderful asset to our school. They realize that it is an unusual situation and that business still needs to be conducted so I would seek this person out and start planning - besides although they may be there on a temporary basis there ideas may differ from yours, regarding programs etc. We actually scaled back on a few programs - and big surprise it worked out great - teacher's didn't mind a few programs less and the children were still happy with all that was provided. We actually found that with cutting back in the program dept. our budget held up better and provided for other services. Good luck!

I am wondering what to do with a beginning of the year list of things that need to be approved for parent group events in the first month of school with a Principal who is leaving the day before school starts and an interim coming in. Normally I have met with the principal at this time to finalize and go over all the new ideas for the year however I feel as if this is of little importance right now. How have others dealt with this situation? I see it growing as the year progresses, is this a step back year?
