Crazy idea but could you sell bricks to families that would ultimatly line the outside of the playground? Not sure what the cost is etc on this kind of project but our city park did this with great success.

Have you just plan asked for support from families present, past, and future? Will the city pitch in since this could be considered an improvement? Oh! Wouldn't a golf tournament be interesting?! Invite local service clubs and parents, heck, can you extend the invite to local churches too? Could the golf tournament be done in the fall? I know the clubs here are often open well into Oct/Nov before the first snow fall.

Like I said, this has been a crazy year, hope I can give you something that works for you!

Bertha, welcome to the boards. I like your idea of doing it on a half day.

I have a question about security for that. Would the school be held responsible for the kids if the parents are no shows?

kma, If she doesn't let you do it during school, can you plan it on one of our half days? I know its after school and a lot of people leave, but its better than a weekend.

kmamom - I really hope this can be a solution for you? We do our walk-a-thon during the day in gym class. We've done this for years. The children get sponsor sheets a few weeks before and then we bring in a portable cd player and play music (be sure todays music versions are edited) while the kids do laps around the gym during their regularly scheduled gym time that week. The following week usually Fri. in the morning we do prizes and sponsor sheets are due that day. The K & 1st grade do 25 laps while the upper grades do 50.
Hope this helps.

We'd actually planned the event for June, since there isn't much planned then. Like I said--we understand the busy aspect, but this is a once in a decade kind of thing, and she HAS known about it for several months now.

I am tempted to run it on a Saturday, but our fundraising chair is dead-set against the idea  . I feel as nonsequitur does, and if we market it right, we could get a good attendence. The main problem with that is the baseball, softball, soccer, name your sport scheduling. Not only are the grounds in use then, but also the time factor for the majority of the kids.

Any ideas for a good money maker? That doesn't take place during school hours ;) ? We have a "Tricky Tray (Chinese Auction) planned for November, but does anyone else have any ideas?

This is too funny. We had planned a Fun Run on a Saturday because the idea of having it during the school day was frowned upon (for different reasons). Due to snow on Friday but 50 degree weather Saturday morning we had five runners.
Now we were told not during the day because it would be unfair to ask the P.E. teachers to "run" a PTO fundraiser when the students would normally be in their class.
While I also understand the "schedualing" issue, it makes me laugh. You aren't the only one that hears that one! I would just like to see PTO activites correctly listed on a calendar.....sorry.
Well, if it also helps to make you feel better, we are in the hole $450 (cost of t-shirts) and I have a third grade teacher dissapointed that her idea failed...excuse me? How were we suppose to know it was going to snow in April when we ordered the shirt in Febuary! ;) I could see if it was the school admin that stepped in but it was an act of God! Did you read about the Kiss a Pig fun I had??? It's just been a crazy crazy year.
