teachers or no teachers

We see the same thing but want it to change for next year. We are going to the administration and discussing this matter soon in a totally 'we need you' partnership manner. Our Fun Fair is our biggest event and needs the most help to pull it off. We are going to ask that they be there for this one major thing. I feel the staff's attitude is a direct reflection of the administration. We just want to put the 'T' back in PTO ! We are treading carefully so we don't make anyone mad but it needs to be discussed.

Hmmm. That could be tricky, since some people might take offense to being told they are doing less than great work, even if they know they are. We have one liason, and she's pretty good. Why three teachers? What are their duties? Are they voted on, or chosen by a committee?

It seems to me that if you could eliminate any or all of the positions, you could start there. Give honest reasons as the reason why (the board felt they weren't necessary, the "work" they do could be expediated or better streamlined if it went into another committee, that kind of thing). If they aren't voted on, and you can't get rid of the positions, just choose different people.

You might want to make a printed handout explaining what the chairperson's duties for all the committees are, and ask on the handout for only people who think they can actually follow through on the commitment. That way you aren't singling out the teachers in particular. That way if no signs up, oh well, the positions aren't filled, and since they weren't doing a great job to begin with it would be easier to know they won't be there to count on at all.

Good Luck!

We don't have any teachers as part of the executive board. What we do have is 1 teacher who is elected to be the PTO liaison. That teacher comes to our meetings to represent the teachers. She does not dictate anything to the board. She just gets information or asks questions about how or when something is being run.

Just a quick question that maybe some of you can help me with....We have 3 teachers on our executive board this year...They are great women and I respect everything they do, but they have not contributed to PTO very much. They show up to some meetings, but never know what is going on, dont really relay information to other teachers and dont volunteer for anything and when asked they are always busy and cant do it. does anyone else have these issues. Our election is coming up and I am running for prez and am concerned that we will have teachers sign up for postions they cant commit to. any suggestions on how to approach this in a graceful way? Thansk
