PTO funds to pay for Teacher's Lounge Face Lift?

20 years 8 months ago #64631 by C. Brooks
Does the teacher lounge also serve as the workroom where volunteers have to spend much of their time? If so I would see what the other members thought.

If you don't think it would go over well then maybe you could offer suggestions on raising money. Tell them where they may get some good donations. The RC machine in our teachers work room benefits odd and in things such as this. If there isn't one, maybe the teachers could form a committee and sell different drinks and snacks in the work room with all the money being made going toward renovations, they could get something nice an raffle it off, or perhaps have a teacher change drive. That is a few things I can think of. Of course some of these things may not be allowed in your school, but if you could offer a few suggestions it may get some wheels turning.

I think a teacher lounge should be a relaxing place if possible. On rough days it is nice to have a place to wind down for a few minutes, that way they are not as apt to take frustrations out on the kids.

I really think our PTO would not want to take this on fully. Our mission is to "enrich the educational environment" and our vision is to support the education of every child. I don't think the lounge would directly fall under either of these. However, I think our PTO, which is extremely supportive of our staff, would probably offer to take on part of the re-do-maybe purchase a new couch or take on painting and window treatments. I think there would probably be parents that would want to help out individually too, separate from the PTO. That's just the culture of our school and community. If your staff is an enthusiastic and contributing part of your PTO, maybe the PTO would buy into it. I don't think it would be a disaster necessarily. When the teachers are happy, the kids are happy!!

HELP!!!!!!!! Our teachers say they are sick and tired of their lounge and want to have it redone. They went to the Principal for the funds, he said the district would not pay for it. One of them asked me what I thought about asking the PTO to pay for it. This looks like a potential disaster waiting to happen. Anyone out there tackled this one already?
