Parking lot construction nightmare

21 years 3 weeks ago #64337 by mykidsmom
Our school recently moved into a new facility and within the year had ideas on expanding and building more. So by December, those at the school board meeting were shown plans for a parking garage, new gym AND 700 seat auditorium. Great! Contruction WAS to begin May 30th when everyone was out of school. Well, we all know how that works as we are now June and the crews have JUST started. Now they have a completion date of October (!) School starts August 18th (we will be okay as the remodling INSIDE will be done) and while we have the okay to be in the building the parking lot is a MESS!!!
Right now the bus lane, pick-up/drop-off lane, and west parking lot are closed off. That is roughly 100 spots gone!
Here is where I can use some help. We need to get the word out to our parents that have no idea about the isues we are facing AND the solutions we want to propose. #1 carpooling, #2 dely pick-up (please don't come at 3:00 if Johnny isn't done until 3:30) #3 yelling at the staff is a bad idea..... We already have a staggered dismissal times starting at 3:10 then 3:15 then 3:30 buses leave at 3:40 parking lot cleared by 3:50 ( last year). The school changed it once and changed it back to this.
We still have e-mail addresses that we can use to contact many of the parents that way. I agree the school should be doing this but this is one of those things if you want it done you gotta do it yourself. A mass mailing could work if the school would pay for the postage.

When the project is completed we will have a four story parking garage, new gym, 700 seat auditoruim, larger cafeteria (taken from the old gym) and 8 more class rooms (via old gym).

I can't change the world, I just need ideas how to inform the parents.

Thanks!

(on a fun note, the principal and her husband were making plans to build a new home, she said NO I am SO tired of talking to contractors!! This will be three years for her dealing with construction!)
