you are way off base here...these flyers came in on monday after i made them, printed them, counted them and filed them. There was no reson they didnt get home except they werent handled by the teacher. as far as me overreacting you have no clue as what as occured all year ...we have planned events asking for input from the teachers and got none but then right before the event we are told they dont want to do it so we are forced to cancel. All we ask for them is to make sure our flyer gets out, we dont ask for reps, help from them ..we have spent over 4000.00 on them this year after them NEVER getting a dime from the PTA. I did not go in and tell the principal what i did...she approached me yesterday morning because she knew i was upset. how do you expect me to stand behind a principal if she tells me to my face that the group will never be important to her. I am friends with about 85% of the staff ...we get along great but Just once all i ask is for the principal to back my feelings. I was asked last january by her to run this group and we have no officers so dont try to make it sound like im one of those parents who dont care. this year i have handled the whole exepmtion/incorporating process, five new events and the overseeing of running every bit of this group.i Have great volunteers but no one wants to be in charge. nOt to mention ALOT of character ed. stuff also, I spent at least 30 hours a week at school from september til now. Dont judge me because i finally stopped kissing my principals butt.Let me add Im the only leader this group has ever had because NO ONE wants to do it...we are only 19 months old . The pta split up for the same reasons lack of support all the way around.

We want a flyer sent home WE put it in the boxes and make sure the staff knows this is a timed flyer and it needs to go home and APOLOGIZE for the last minute notice. I do this while toteing four children and a stroller and there are three of us.

Your Principal wasn't "crazy" and probably had no idea how many calles you needed to make, e-mail would have worked for some as a phone call for the others.

I am really sorry hear but it sounds like your over reacting a touch. It's May and you resigned because there was a small qlich. Nope, I only know what you have said but Yeap, I feel this could have been handled much more civilized. Oh, I just dealt with seven of you last night because the parking lot (in their eyes) is terrible because ONE DAY they waited 30 minutes to pick up their children. This was the day a little firl was hit by a Dad speeding, ran a red light and hit her, not at school but EMT was directing traffic.

THese parents are leaving because they had to wait, I said GOOD-BYE. Your leaving because flyers that are your responciblity didn't get home......did you talk to the teachers???? NOPE...you marched in and told the Principal what you did, too late to turn back now.........

I'm not a teacher but I truly admire all that they do and what they need to put up with.....

in response to the above post my principal said that we could split up the task of calling but it seems like a flyer is so much quicker, we always have pick up date on the order form, a newsletter a week and a half before and then the big notice that is what im asking with help getting out.I truly cant imagine calling everyone who buys. The majority of our teachers do get the info in the kids boxes but then they sit. it seems the principal must have said something today to teachers about getting stuff home because my son told me that everyone had to clean out thier mailboxes in his grade. Which i have been in there and seen flyers a month old in them.It has been a battle getting support after years of a very negative pta, the principal told me that i am asking too much , we dont have teachers rep because they complain if they have to or just dont come, i dont ask for help at functions (although this year the input has greatly increased on their part) i think the number one thing is that if we need them to send one flyer out a month it shouldnt be a big task.we give funds very freely to them and projects they want done. I have never let my true feelings come out until today and i lost it....she had done asyrvey and the teachers said that they wanted parent involvement but they cringe when they actually see it....

In reference to:
"She also said that instead of doing flyers for reminders we should call anyone who sells something and remind them..."

This is garbage. In some schools you may have well over half the school you would need to call.

Are your board members, room parents, staff members, etc going to help call????? In the years I have volunteered and the years I have put into PTO, we know that it will never happen. We have gone as far as sending notes a week ahead, then again two days before the event plus e-mail reminders. It's more teachers getting them out. We take the time to get them printed and in the teachers hands on time, the least they could do is get them home. I know when the notes are actually sent home. My child's teacher hasn't missed a note yet in the two years she's been there and I was blessed enough to get her two years in a row - one year with each of my kids.

hi memouse....im afraid to say that we got into a very heated discussion and i have officially handed in my resignation this afternoon. the princiapl cornered me this morning and we both really went off she told me she cant support me over the staff and if i felt that way to resign...so i did. She also said that instead of doing flyers for reminders we should call anyone who sells something and remind them...that seems like a ton of work. any comment on how anyone handles pickup would be great..although not much help to me. I have taken a group from 3 or 4 parents to over 35 and my departure will make alot of parents leave ....i was accused of teacher bashing because i felt mad about the fyers not going out. we do not get reps at our meetings so we really dont ask much...ugh

This has happened with me also...the only way we stopped it was to go around to the rooms about 30 mins before the kids went home and just passed them out. It would be something good to bring up at you next meeting asking teachers on how they felt about you doing this....REMIND THEM HOW NICE YOUR PTO HAS BEEN TO THEM THIS YEAR!! ;)

BEST OF LUCK !!
