Emergency Response

What a neat idea! We don't have any kind of packs. We do have emergency drills which involve everything from having paper over the windows in the door and having a lockdown to evacutating the school and going to one of the neighboring schools. But we have nothing for them to do when they are sitting in the corners. They have to be quiet, so it would have to involve some sort of quiet activity. Maybe a small pack of crayons with some paper? A book to read? Where do you keep them? Does the teacher grab them and take them with him/her? What do you store them in? It is a great idea. I would love to get our school to do it, but with recent budget cuts, I know the school will not pay for it. How much does it cost to put all of these things in it? Does the PTO pay for it? Just a few questions I have before I bring this to our board! Thanks for answering! :D

I was wondering what your schools are doing in response to being prepared for an emergency situation. I wanted to design a pack for the children to have in their classrooms in case we experience any kind of attack or emergency situation. The pack had a flashlight, bottle of water, antibacterial wipes and a snack all in a zip lock bag. I was talking to other schools in this area and many said their schools have this taken care of already. How prepared are your schools? Can you please give me your ideas and opinions. I know this pack isn't going to do much but every little bit counts doesn't it. I thought parents could make the packs up as an "entertainment kit" ( not to alarm the children) and take them home at the end of each semester and replenish the contents. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks
