Teachers need your donated books too

21 years 2 months ago #64131 by Dinee
Anyone that is doing the end of the year newsletter, might consider putting an article in there asking for the gently used books too. Many people would rather donate them to the teachers for the classroom reading - instead of putting them in a garage sale and only getting a quarter for each book!

Great tax donation too. Take a picture of the books that you are toting up to school to donate.

Veronica - that's wonderful - over 200 books - I just know those teachers were elated! Isn't it wonderful how the simple things like clearning our ones good items can pass joy onto another person!

If you ever get too many books don't forget that the local Children's Hospitals always need books too. Many of their short term patients love to see what new reading material has arrived since their last visit.

We notified families in advance that anyone who brought in a gentally used book they would recieve a redemption ticket for each book. We recieved over 200 books and Teachers loved it. We also distributed some to the Rolling Reading program. We have had suggestions to also do the same in return for a bag of popcorn, soda, candy at our Movie Night or other Family Fun Nights.

Excellent idea! I have done this myself, too!

Just a quick thought to share with ya'll. Recently we were cleaning out a few areas around here (kids closets, bedrooms, book shelves in family room, Mom's school stash of required reading etc.)

I collected all the books that my teenagers had stashed in various places, kept a few favs, and then took all the books they would not need any longer, up to the school and donated them to their fav teachers, for the classroom book areas. Those teachers were so excited! The books were in excellent condition, many my son read once, then put up on his shelf till I rediscovered them. The majority of these books were 2nd grade on up books, but several were also some of the required reading books from 5th and 6th grade too.

Keep this idea in mind when you start your spring cleaning, and instead of taking them to a community library, or up to Half Price Books, take the box up to the school and let the teachers pick over them for ones they would just LOVE to have in their classroom. They frequently have to buy books for the classroom, out of their own personal family $, .
