Help. New preschool teacher needs strategies

21 years 5 months ago #64086 by loveya
Our Pre K 3/4 yr program is small but effective. The children our in 1/2 day classes of 7 to 10 children each with one teacher and one aide. Although I have seen parents assist as well. They have different centers to rotate kids through every 20 minutes or so. That way the kids get some one on one with the teacher and she can work with them at their level. Others are nearby painting, playing, working puzzles, etc. and supervised by aide. Of course at this level some of the success is just teaching the child to learn how to cooperate, listen and learn without Mom. To build a trust that they will be taken care of and Mom or Dad will return to pick them up. Our Teacher is great and also a Texan, I'm sure she could pass along some ideas!Good Luck

We have a new teacher at our private school responsible for teaching 4 year olds language arts. She is supposed to cover letters, phonics and beginning reading skills. The problem is that there are 15 kids in the class and they are at different levels. Some of the kids barely know any letters. Some know some of the letters and the sounds. And others know ALL of the letters and the sounds and they are bored to tears. Some of the kids know how to write their first name, a FEW know how to wright first & last names and others don't know how to write their names at all.

Does any one have any ideas/strategies she can use to teach the various groups without loosing control of the class?
