PTO Agenda

Thanks for your feedback, especially your "issues" list.
In helping to develop the agenda I will be looking to include items from these categories.
I am concerned that part of the reason for poor turnout is related to an agenda so heavy with the fundraising activities - like we're always looking for money for something.
I think the PTO needs to make an impact in other areas and you have identified some.
Thanks again

Since we were formed as an organization to support the school and its programs, that is where we focus our efforts. Our agenda items are pretty typical.

Pres, Treas, Principal Reports
Committee Reports
Old Business
New Business

Within these areas we discuss our activities, what's happening at the school, and how we can support the students. That includes issues dealing with academics, culture, enrichment programs, student safety, etc.

We would not normally get involved in anything outside the scope of our purpose, especially a political issue. Since it's highly unlikely that 100% of any group would feel the same way about an external issue, we need to remain neutral.

I could see where we might support a community or philanthropic initiative, like a recycling effort, a drug awareness program, an anti litter campaign - something like that which benefits our students and the community as a whole. But our main focus remains on programs and activities within the school.

I am in my second year of involvement in the PTO and also sharing responsibilities as Co-President.
Our monthly agenda is mostly about fundraising activities and expenditure of those funds.
I'm wondering what other agenda items are appropriate for PTO member consideration.
Is there a role in the PTO for a political agenda?
The school is one of 4 grammar schools in a town of ~ 15,000 population Each school with about 200 students.
I'd be interested in hearing other memeber's comments on this issue.
Thanks
