Are you sure about that? I've heard that PTO is responsible for insurance on playground equipment when you buy it. When someone gets hurt, they can come back to you and the school. I'm not a lawyer, but that's what I"ve heard.

once the boe accepts a gift, it becomes their property and responsibility to maintain. tell that plug-head super to just let it go...let it go...let it go. the money belongs to the pto, and the administration needs to get over and let the pto do what they want for the kids and teachers. just say...no mats

I don't agree that the PTO should fund the purchase, but I do agree that when this rock climbing wall was built that all of the safety issues should have been considered including mats below. I also agree that once the "donation" is made to the school that any rules governing it (we are talking about a permanent fixture on school property, right?) fall under the BOE's jurisdiction. If a child is hurt the responsibility falls back on the school, regardless of who purchased the equipment. These kind of issues reflect the importance of a good working relationship between the PTO, the School Administration and the BOE.

We purchased a Rock Climbing Wall for our gym, last spring. Our Super is insisting we pay for mats. The same mats that our gym teachers have been trying to order for the past three years. It is our B.O.E.'s policy that once a donation is excepted, it is the schools policy. We have been badgered for 6 months about the mats. They have been turned down by the general membership at the October meeting. He won't let it go. Any suggestions?
