Starbucks is revising their grant guidelines not available until January 2003. I have checked the other 2 sites and they have great information. Try your local foundations in your area. Check with your local community library and see if they may have a list of foundations that support literacy for non-profit organizations.

Go to www.fdncenter.org for foundations that can help your cause. Also check out www.starbucks.com they offer literacy grants as well.

Literacy Grants was created by IMovePeople
Each school in our district has a literacy room that contains leveled books, sets of books - that teachers use to supplement the text. For higher grades these are novels, for younger grades it can be story books, etc. When our new school was budgeted - we were allowed about 50% of the cost to stock this room so that it is available for its stated purpose to all students. PTO is considering (and it's highly probable) a donation to this room of an additional 25%. This would put the room at 75% "usefullness" for lack of a better word. We are looking into the possibility of grants for the remainder of the money - but if those grants are "matching" we want to know that before the PTO makes its contribution so that our funds can be matched.

Do any of you know of organizations that provide literacy grants, either outright or matching? We are in Illinois, NW of Chicago. I've gone to www.schoolgrants.org - but also know that it is not possible for all grant opportunities to be listed in one place. Also know that the braintrust of PTO's and school issues is here!

Any help will be appreciated.
