Yep! this has been carryover from year to year for the last 4 - 5 years now. We have had the same pres. and no alocations. I questione it myself when i became involved and the response given was if the school needs something they can ask her. almost beg her. apparently others have offered to take over the pres. position but it never happens. it is bizzare the way it is run. what can be done to force this $$ to be spent? Anything? Looking for any input ont he subject. at this point i'm beginning to think it's more of a legal issue as to why this $$ isn't being spent.

I don't know the answer to your question. . . but I have one for you . . . am I reading this right? You always have a surplus of $20-$30K in the bank?

If I was a parent at your school I would question the need for continually conducting fundraisers with that kind of money in the bank and no specific plans for the savings - like if you were saving for a large expenditure (new playground equipment?). We carry enough to have on hand at the beginning of the next year before our fall fundraiser, the largest of the year - which funds most of the activities for that year, and that's all. We STILL get questions about why are we fundraising if we already have money in the bank, even though it might be $2,000-$3,000.

Can someone offer guidance? Are allocations required for a parent group to maintain non-profit status? Our group carries approx. $20,000 - $30,000 in our account yet we have no allocations to spend this money. It has been set up as if they need it they will ask. Is this legal? And if not how much trouble are we looking at?
