Just a quick update, the school has found the boy responsible for the threats and he has been expelled and is in a juvenille detention center. When they searched his locker they found drugs he was selling and ten asthma inhalers, now I must be a moron but I have asthma and for the life of me have not figured out what the kids are doing with these. It is a sad situation, this 8th grade boy is now up to his ears in touble and most likely doesn't have a clue as to the seriouness of his crimes.

Chrystal, please read the posts regarding Listing the Students by Name under In School Staff Issues. A discussion was held regarding situtions similar to yours.

I do not think you are being cynical. This is the world we live in and we must protect the most precious things in our lives. The sole reason our school doesn't release the children's location in the event of terrorist activities is because they do not want to put the kids in any further danger.

Try to work with your local law enforcement and school administration. Being prepared will only benefit our children.

My son's middle school has had two bomb threats this week. The first being Monday, there were eight police cars at the school and the kids were not allowed to enter the building for over an hour. The second was yesterday, they moved all of the students to the city rec center next door for an hour and 15 minutes. No parents were informed and the school administration are not very forthcoming with information when approached. My worry with both the middle school and the elementary school is that parents and students are told that the kids will be removed from the building and taken to the rec center or the senior center if an emergency arises...in my cynical mind if everyone is aware of the evacuation plan the kids are not any more safe at the other building. They are supposed to have "fan out" people to call parents but as of yet have not completed the list. Have any of your schools had these types of threats recently? And how does your administration handle it??
