As a parent, I was on the interview committe when we had to hire a new school nurse.
The people you will interview should have gone through a pre-screening process already. All the questions they(school officials) wanted to ask were printed on a paper and there were key responses they wanted to get. We each had a copy of the questions and took turns asking the questions. Basically, it was to see how the candidate responded and to see if they were familiar with the regulations and responsibilities. Each member of the committe scored the applicants.
There was a chance at the end of the preprinted questions to ask additional questions. I think this would be a good time to find out about the personality of the individual applying. Such as: What was the best (or worst) day in a school setting and what made it good (bad)? How did you handle it? Some questions you might want to ask may be a part of the standard set of questions. (There was a question about the role of the PTO and etra-curricular activities)

Some had better responses than others and it was pretty much a no-brainer as to who was the best candidate was. I hope this helps.

Our current elem. principal is becoming our Superintendant in June, therefore leaving the principal position vacant. I (I'm the PTO president) have been asked to serve on the selection and interview committee for the principal. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what kinds of questions I should ask the candidates? I am the only parent on the committee, every one else is staff or school board members, so I would like to be prepared. Thanks for your help.
