I agree with CrewChief, Our PTO just did our bylaws and this was one of the things addressed was we took out the only serving two terms becuase we do have many active parents who want to be involved much longer and are doing a great job. But we did add in the removal of officers for not doing their jobs for the reasons you had metnitoned.
I would say if your doing it for all the right reasons there is no reason why you shouldn't stay on for another year.

I agree with CrewChief that you should get your bylaws in order.

I certainly wouldn't want someone who likes to involve themselves in fist fights to hold a position on our board. Good luck to you.

Dear John--(always wanted to say that :)). Having the same board in place doesn't necessarily have to seem cliquish. If portrayed properly ("thank you for your vote of confidence in reelecting the current board--we're looking forward to continuing to serve the best interests of all our students") it can actually be a point of pride. Cliquishness occurs if folks trying to step in are given the revolving door. Having said that..the person running for the position with a tough personality doesn't have to be voted in. If they are on the ballot the yeah votes still have to outweight the nays. If the nays are ahead it is seen as a vote of no confidence and that person does NOT win the election. Prior to that event occuring however, as president I would feel it my place to talk with the individual and let them know that some of their actions have spoken loudly and you would like to assist them in transition to a more positive position by offering them a committee chair. That will NOT be easy and I would ponder long and hard on how I would actually handle that discussion...but I would do that before I would embarrass them by receiving a nay vote. So just some thoughts...

I also would like it if anyone had any voting, election forms , ect... that they could send me. I am new this year as Pres. and have not done an election before. We have never really done an election to get our officers and I am triny to make this years board a little more organized.
