"I think it's a mistake to assume that this is a matter of ignorance. " CC - i was not assuming anything.....what i meant by inserting that quote from goethe about ignorance, is that education is sometimes the best policy.

ie instead of forcing rules and rules and rules down parents throats (PBJ pun!!) its sometimes wise to simply educate people about the issue of allergies. its easy to diss policies and rules when you dont understnad their bases. i say educate the parents so they understand all the rules being enforced. unless you have experience first hand with severe allergy, one doesnt know how bad it really can be.

and years ago, allergies were not as commonplace as today, so this generation of 'older' parents just needs to be educated on things such as alleriges and how bad they can be. thats all.

we all have our issues with our schools, people are so diverse, fortunately we can talk about our differences and agree to differ!

ok, no more pnut talk for me, im outta this thread.

If I'm found unconcious, rushed to the hospital and given an MRI, I could die. Should MRIs be banned. Of course not. Should the well intentioned folks who tried to help me be labeled as ignorant and then be sued for their ineptitude. Of course not. I wear a medical bracelet instead.

My 12 year old niece is blind. She was born pemature and the life-saving techniques the doctors used created a retinal infection that caused her blindness. My sister's response? To thank God for the beautiful daughter he gave to her and to go about the business of teaching her to be blind in a sighted world.

Whoa Nellie she's on the 40 the 30 the 20 OOOHHH Knocked out of bounds.....(PB&J on par with a Gun!!!!!)

how many PB&J's and Guns have killed.... NONE) people kill not PB&J's- PB&J could but the statistics are miniscule.

No where in the constitution does anyone have a right to tell me I cant send a PB (my kids dislike jelly) to school.

If someone has a peanut allergy, the school, parents and students need to be educated, set up area and to make it as safe as possible PERIOD

So the sun, wool, polyester, pollen, walnuts, bleachcat or dog fur from home should be banned?? (My Wife could die (from anaphalatic shock) if Walnuts or Wool were on or injested by her) Should we have 1984ish Sanitizers as kids walk thru the doors to school?....

Everyone has the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness BUT not at the expense of others... Your sons allergies DO NOT trump my childs right to eat what they want IN an open to semi open environment..

The minority does not rule even in severe circumstances.. I'm sorry your child has to deal with a severe allergy but his rights dont trump anyone elses... Its not a disability (It does stink but none the less) because its not a right to be unexposed to peanuts its sound educational idea (to limit exposure) and a courtesy

Should we ban junk food at school? (Doh already done!!!!) after-school (Doh already done!!!!) at home? 'Cuz we might get fat and die of hardended arteries?

Heavens no! That would only stigmatize the child and further prove our ignorance. (Oh, sarcasm is so hard to convey...)

I think it's a mistake to assume that this is a matter of ignorance. Yes, an informative letter with suggestions is a good move. Kudos to that staff. But to mandate policies and blind compliance is just going to far.

To be clear, I am not without experience. My family struggles with our own difficult illnesses and disabilities. Our goal, however, is to learn to adapt to the world rather than to have the world adapt to us.

To clarify....should we put all the peanut allergy kids in one room, that is peanut free, for their own protection?

I think the people apposed to this seem to be focusing on the "righs" issue, not the health issue.....when do one person's "rights" outweigh anothers?

Peanut butter is one of the few protien items my child eats. When you tell me he can no longer eat for lunch what he has for the last 5 years that is not fair....who's rights come first?

Should peanut allergy childen be in a peanut free environment for their own protection?
