If true, go to authorities. It's called theft. Worse: it's called theft from kids.

Shawn has got the outline. fantastic.

And remember to : document document document.

ie your meetings with staff, phone calls the answers they gave or didnt give. it helps when and if you have to move up the chain of command. there is a paper trail. they cant easily deny what they said/ignored.
(you can zap an email to confirm the converstaion etc if its something really important to you, a registered letter, to the effect of, heres the situation, heres what ive asked , heres what youve replied, if i misunderstood, inform me in 10 days etc. otherwise events are as described and i understood you correctly......)

these 'records' can come in very handy and gives you credicbility becuase talk is cheap ie you never know what line the mgmt will give the next higher up if the higher ups come down a level asksing questions.

politics run supreme in some places. but shawn is right, go up high enough til you get the issue resolved, for the sake of the children.

Documentation is the antidote to disrespect. AUthor unknown.

Who does the PTSO answer to legally? Although our PTSO has written bylaws, the officers have not followed them. This has led to a potentially dangerous situation. Our PTSO pretty much fell apart last year. They didn't have a membership drive, no minutes of meetings, etc. There was no election, etc. The school is aware but the superintendent said he checked with the school lawyers and the PTSO is a seperate organization and they can do nothing about it even though the principal is listed in the bylaws as an executive officer. The other officers "do not want to get in the middle" of this mess. What can we as members and concerned parents do?

Some info on members, bylaws etc

I recognize that I possess a very special intellect, but at the same time, I recognize that I'm lacking in a lot of areas. But being well-rounded is greatly overrated.

If you dont already have
</font>
  • Get Copy Bylaws</font>
  • Get EIN or 501c3 #</font>

Then contact
</font>
  • IRS</font>
  • Super</font>
  • BOE</font>
  • Mayors Office</font>
  • Dept of Edu</font>
  • Governors Office</font>
  • State attorney General</font>
Its best to go from Principal on up (follow the Chain of Command)

Whether this Principal or Super is the most Fantastic, person or not -- you have a problem and need
</font>
  • Question answered</font>
  • Possibilities</font>
  • Solutions</font>

If the School can give it (or doesnt want to deal with it) THEN they should find a new line of work No one is above the welfare of our children -- regardless of past work history (be it exeptional or not)

They need to give you workable direction, solution and resolution -- whether the PTA/PTO is a separate entity or not

Call, Call, Call till someone gives you the time of day and wants to help... If you in CA call me I'll help

</font>
  • ACLU- as much as I hate to recomend them</font>
  • Local Attorney - most give free conseltation</font>
  • Local College Education Dept Legal-- might give ideas or refrences</font>
I ain't as good as I once was
But I'm as good once as I ever was
